Celebrating 30 Years of DC SCORES With Trap Bob
Trap Bob, the iconic D.C. artist, has designed a new logo and jersey to commemorate DC SCORES’ 30th anniversary.
As DC SCORES celebrates its 30th anniversary, the organization is proud to share a new logo and commemorative jersey designed by iconic D.C.-based artist Trap Bob.
Known for her bold, vibrant style, Trap Bob has redesigned the nonprofit’s logo with a community-focused twist, crafting a design that symbolizes the strength, pride, and resilience of DC SCORES poet-athletes.
Every detail in the logo tells a piece of DC SCORES’ 30-year journey. A star shines over the DMV, honoring DC SCORES’ pride in its hometown and origins in the District. The “1994” crest is a tribute to the year DC SCORES was founded—when public school teacher Julie Kennedy launched an after-school program for girls that combined soccer, poetry, and service.
DC SCORES’ original “running book” logo is echoed in a friendly, anthropomorphic planet, a nod to the nonprofit’s origins and a visual reminder of its ongoing growth. Another central image, a writing pencil, celebrates the creativity of DC SCORES poet-athletes, capturing the power of their words and their use of poetry to share their stories. Lastly, the international globe symbolizes DC SCORES’ belief that every child from every background can feel confident as a poet-athlete.
Trap Bob’s logo design has also been incorporated into a new commemorative DC SCORES jersey designed by the artist. The jersey, which has the words “Poet-Athlete 30” emblazoned on the back, debuted at One Night One Goal.
The jerseys, produced by Icarus Football, a custom soccer kit brand, will be available to the general public in early 2025.
The 30th-anniversary designs are not Trap Bob’s first collaboration with DC SCORES. She has previously designed three Poet-Athlete Awards, given to recipients who embody the ethos of poet-athletes. The honors are bestowed each year at Our Words Our City, an annual poetry showcase that brings together young poet-athletes from across D.C. to share their original work.
With Trap Bob’s design marking DC SCORES’ 30th year, the organization is celebrating a vibrant legacy of creativity, community, and growth and building toward a city where every young voice can be heard.
